‚ÄčOur Year So Far...

Philly Primary has enjoyed a very busy start to the school year.  In September we held our Open House and our Summer Reading Challenge where students who received golden tickets for reading books over the summer were able to throw a pie in the face of our Principal, Mrs. Zehr, and our Sr. Custodian, Mr. Adams.

In October we invited all of our grandparents to breakfast, which was a huge success. Our kindergartners visited Old McDonald’s farm and learned all about bus safety from Buster the Bus. Our 1st graders went apple picking at Fobare’s Fruits and our 2nd graders learned about School Days from the Historical Society.

We learned about fire safety from the Fort Drum Fire Department, who brought their smoke house to show us what to do in a fire, we practiced our lock down procedures, and we participated in an evacuation drill where we dismissed from the fire hall.

To encourage our students to read, we held a pumpkin decorating contest and announced the winners at our Title I Literacy night.  As you can see from the pictures, our students are very talented!  And in November, our 2nd and 3rd graders participated in the dental sealant program through Carthage Dental.

Philly Primary T-Shirt Contest

At the end of the 1st quarter of school our PTO gifts our students with a Philly Primary T-Shirt.  Each year we hold a t-shirt design contest with our 3rd graders.  The PTO chooses a theme, and then with the help of our art teacher, Mrs. Carlow, our 3rd graders each submit a design for the t-shirt.  The designs are then voted on by the faculty, staff, and PTO.  This year's theme is a carryover from our summer reading challenge, "Philly Primary is the Golden Ticket to our Success." The winning  t-shirt was designed by Hailey Gray.  Congratulations Hailey!
